Jovana Solarevic, 21, is a local Maltese student and part-time worker.
Solarevic participates Sustainable living and wellness Achievers scheme project funded by the Government of Malta’s Ministry for Equality, Research and Innovation. The funds supports participants to join the weekly sessions of the Non-Governmental Organisation, Proutist Universal Malta.
The course is based on the book Natural Medicine and Yoga for Health books. The attendees practice yoga, meditation, breathing exercises and discussions on different topics of sustainable living and wellness.
“Yoga helps me relax and feel more at peace to deal with the stress of having a busy schedule, apart from this I feel like I am doing something good for my well-being,” Solarevic said. “It helps for both studies and work as it is a way of becoming more aware of your surroundings and thus it helps with concentration and focus.”
Solarevic says she started practising yoga on her own around one year ago.
“I had a few classes here in Malta but mostly I learned from online videos,” Solarevic said. “I believe that it can help your physical health by keeping it active through the different stretching poses and dances whilst also helping improve mental health as it helps the person relax and think more clearly.”
Solarevic said she used to practice yoga almost every day, now she tries to practice it two to three times a week.
Solarevic believes yoga helps with her studies and work.
“It helps for both studies and work as it is a way of becoming more aware of your surroundings and thus it helps with concentration and focus” Solarevic said. “it does because you are exercising both your mind and body in order to focus on your breathing and the different position you would be in.”
Solarevic thinks yoga practice is good for managing her stress. She
“It helps relief anxiety and manage the stress that accumulates from everyday tasks or duties” Solarevic said. “I would definitely recommend others to join the sessions as I believe that it helps to have guidance when it comes to such practices and also to seek advice when needed.”
Solarevic wants to make difference in society by her volunteering service work.
“My goal in life is to have a job where I enjoy what I am doing and if I can I would like to help people, and work on myself, body and mind whenever I can.”
