Sustainable Living and Wellness project
Funded by the Government of Malta – Ministry of Equality Research and Innovation
The participants of the Sustainable living and Wellness project practiced yoga, meditation and participated on the Sustainable living and wellness activity at Gzira and Birkirkara from September 1 to November 30, 2021. The project preparation began on June 1 with marketing. The youths attended interactive workshops to overcome stress, becoming more focused to study and work. Andrea Muscat gave workshops on different topics, such as natural herbs, nutrition, sustainable wellbeing, benefits of using water, breathing techniques and relaxation, healthy diets, living with nature to the participants based on the book Natural Medicine and Yoga for Health. The project was designed to do service activities, such as clean-up streets in Malta, volunteering with the homeless shelter for preparing foods and distributing foods to homeless people. The participants were able to exercise while doing such as activities. They gained physical and mental wellness by practicing yoga, meditation and workshops based on Natural Medicine. They learned about drinking water, taking fresh air while walking, breathing exercises and relaxation techniques to overcome their emotions, such as anger, fear and hatred. They become active citizens. Due to the SLW project, some participants have been volunteering regularly at the homeless shelter at Birkirkara. They have been also participating for the Clean-up project and volunteering with service activities. They have learned to eat healthy foods and balance themselves to become self-disciplined. Thanks to the Government of Malta’s Ministry of Equality, Research and Innovation for providing funds for buying printer for providing training materials to the participants. It will help Proutist Universal Malta to use it with the future projects. We purchased yoga mats for the participants of the project. We provided snacks, juice and water to the participants during break. We rented Proutist Universal Malta office at Birkirkara and started our SLW project. We purchased electronic books from Iconsultancy that was cheaper and helpful to provide materials easily as well as saving papers. Our Facebook Ads helped us to attract participants to know about the activities. We cleaned up and prepared the office for the SLW office. Two volunteers, Mariah James and Marthe Durviux stayed at the Birkirkara office using Internet and phone to communicate with local participants. It was helpful because they invited their Facebook friends. We used Achievers and The Government of Malta’s Ministry of Equality, Research and Innovation logos to showcase that the SWL project is funded by the Government of Malta.
Agenzija Sedqa representative, Sheryl Spiteri provided online PowerPoint presentation on the topic, Wise Use of Technology and Stress Management to the participants via Zoom on October 5, 2021 for two hours.
